1.1 Biography

Dr. Panuwat Joyklad earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (with first-class honors) from Naresuan University in 2003. He received his master’s degree in structural engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology’s school of civil engineering in 2005. Dr. Panuwat used to work at TEAM Consulting Engineering and Management Company as a bridge design engineer. There, he honed his high-tech skills for designing complex structures. He then attended Sirinthorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), where he was awarded the Royal Golden Jubilee (RGJ) Ph.D. Program by the Thailand Research Fund (TRF). Dr. Panuwat did his Ph.D. research on the behavior of concrete structures under extreme conditions, like earthquake and tsunami. As a visiting researcher in 2010, he went to the University of Canterbury in New Zealand to do more research. Before his entry into his recent job, he started his teaching career at Kasem-Bundit University. Then, Dr. Panuwat went to Srinakharinwirot University and joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2014. He is also a licensed professional engineer who has designed many irregular structures and still works as a consultant for many construction projects. The Council of Engineers (COE) also put him on the savant committee to help associate engineers become professional engineers.

2.3 Research Interests

Study of bridge live load models for trucks in Thailand, Bridge evaluation under overload trucks, Behavior of concrete structures under seismic and other excitations, Strengthening methods for reinforced concrete structures, and Mechanical properties of local interlocking bricks in Thailand.

2.4 Research Statement

The research area of Dr. Panuwat is divided into three groups: responses of bridges under abnormal live load models, behavior of reinforced concrete structures under various excitations, and development of suitable materials for local construction. The first area intends to find the mathematical model for live load on bridges that will lead to a Thai-owned live load design model. The next area is focused on the behaviors of concrete structures under different conditions such as cyclic loads, combined monolithic loads, and the behavior of reinforced concrete members. This second research area was established to provide knowledge application to professional practices. The final area of research interest is to find appropriate materials or methods for improving the living conditions of local people. The outcome of the third research area can offer low-cost materials and appropriate technology for Thai local people who respond to the social enterprise concept of Srinakharinwirot University.
